MANHATTAN, KAN. – The Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) rolled out a new website and updated logo this month. The new site allows for online membership renewals and management, a search of Symposium presentations, an updated look and is more mobile friendly.
“We’re excited to launch our new site and the features it provides our members and the entire beef industry prior to our 2023 BIF Symposium,” says Joe Epperly, 2022-23 BIF president. “The new site will allow visitors to search Symposium synopses and watch Symposium presentation videos, as well enhance our membership management. With the new site we freshened up our logo. Keeping with tradition we incorporated a three-sided triangle to symbolize how our organization is a link between industry, extension and research.”

The BIF Symposium features two-and-a-half days of educational programming focused on this year’s theme — precision breeding. Monday kicks off with the Young Producer Symposium at 1 p.m. followed by the Welcome and Scholarship Reception. The National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) will host its biennial symposium at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s general session will feature presentations by Dr. Peter Amer, AbacusBio Limited managing director; Dr. Mike Lohuis, The Semex Alliance; Dr. Filippo Miglior, Lactanet Canada scientist and innovation executive; and Dr. Brian Kinghorn, University of New England, Australia.
Wednesday’s general session speakers will include Dr. John Crowley, AbacusBio Limited; Dr. Juan Pedro Stieble, Iowa State University Lush Chair for Animal Breeding & Genetics; and Geoffrey Shmigelsky, OneCup AI.
Technical breakout sessions Tuesday afternoon and late morning Wednesday will focus on a range of beef production and genetic improvement topics. A highlight of this year’s Symposium will be a technology showcase at Olds College on Wednesday afternoon.

Each year the BIF Symposium draws a large group of leading seedstock and commercial beef producers, academics and allied industry partners. The attendance list is a “who’s who” of the beef value chain, offering great networking opportunities and conversations about the issues of the day. The Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) is an organization dedicated to coordinating all segments of the beef industry — from researchers and producers to retailers — in an effort to improve the efficiency, profitability and sustainability of beef production. The organization was initiated almost 70 years ago to encourage the use of objective measurements to evaluate beef cattle.
